PRAYER POINTS AGAINST LABOURING IN VAIN

PRAYER POINTS AGAINST LABOURING IN VAIN

SCRIPTURAL VERSES:

 Isaiah 65:23

They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

Psalm 90:17

And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

INTRODUCTION

Labouring without results can be one of the most frustrating experiences in life. A person may work hard, make sacrifices, pray, give their best, pursue opportunities, invest their resources, and remain committed, yet the expected results seem out of reach.

Labouring in vain is not necessarily the absence of effort; it is the painful experience of putting forth effort without receiving the fruit, progress, reward, or establishment that should reasonably follow. It is working but seeing little progress, planting but struggling to harvest, building but repeatedly watching things collapse, or coming close to breakthrough only to experience another setback.

The Word of God, however, gives us hope. Isaiah 65:23 declares that God’s people “shall not labour in vain.” This is not merely a comforting statement; it reveals God’s desire that our legitimate labour should produce meaningful fruit.

There are times when delay is part of a process. There are seasons when God is developing our character, teaching us patience, preparing us for greater responsibility, or redirecting us toward something better. Therefore, we should not assume that every delay means spiritual opposition.

At the same time, Scripture encourages us to pray for the establishment of our labour. Psalm 90:17 says, “establish thou the work of our hands.” We need God’s wisdom to know what to pursue, God’s grace to do it well, God’s favour to open the right doors, and God’s preservation to protect the fruit when it comes.

As you pray, ask God to reveal anything that needs to change, to give you wisdom regarding your decisions and associations, and to establish every legitimate work He has placed in your hands.

May every good seed you have planted bear fruit at the appointed time, and may the work of your hands become a testimony of God’s faithfulness, in Jesus’ name.

CAUSES OF LABOURING IN VAIN

Labouring in vain can have different causes, and wisdom requires us to examine both spiritual and practical factors.

1. Lack of wisdom: Good intentions without wisdom can lead to repeated mistakes and unproductive efforts.

2. Wrong decisions: A person can work very hard in the wrong direction and still make little progress.

3. Wrong associations: Certain partnerships and relationships can consume time, resources, and energy without producing healthy results.

4. Procrastination and inconsistency: Starting well but failing to remain consistent can prevent good efforts from producing their intended results.

5. Lack of proper planning: Without preparation and direction, even great opportunities can be poorly managed.

6. Fear and discouragement: Repeated disappointment can make a person abandon opportunities before their efforts mature.

7. Mismanagement of resources: Time, money, talents, and opportunities can be wasted through poor stewardship.

8. Ignoring wise counsel: Refusing correction or godly advice can cause avoidable setbacks.

9. Pursuing the wrong path: Not every available opportunity is necessarily the right opportunity. Sometimes fruitlessness is a signal to reconsider the direction.

10. Unforeseen circumstances: Life can bring circumstances beyond our control that interrupt even carefully planned efforts.

11. Spiritual opposition: The Bible also records situations in which God’s people faced opposition and resistance. Such situations should be addressed through prayer while maintaining wisdom and responsible action.

12. God’s timing and preparation: Sometimes what appears to be delay is actually preparation. God may be developing a person before releasing the desired result.

Therefore, while praying against labouring in vain, we should also pray for wisdom, discipline, discernment, patience, and the ability to recognize God’s direction.
